Mentors


 

Matt Overton- Founder

Matt was born in Virginia and moved to California as a young child. He is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Princeton Theological Seminary. Matt has lived in Clark County for seven years. For his day job he is the Minister of Youth and Families at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, Wa. He also started a small landscaping company in Clark County called, "Mowtown". As a teen and young adult, Matt's first jobs included being a paper boy, custodian, sales clerk, track coach, tennis instructor, and a warehouse employee.

 

Bryan Ableidinger- Mentor and Training Leader

Bryan is a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He entered the US Navy and flew naval aircraft for seven years before becoming a pilot for Federal Express for the next twelve years. Bryan left flying to take over his family hardware store business and retired from operations in 2014. He now manages commercial real estate for his family. Bryan has a blended family of five boys with eight grandchildren that he spends time with.  As a young adult, Bryan lived on a farm, created his own tractor work company, worked at the Camas paper mill during college, and worked in a wind tunnel during his tenure at the University of Washington.

Steve Flabetich- Mentor

Steve was raised in Astoria, OR. He is a graduate of Oregon State University with a major in Business Education.  Steve has lived in Vancouver for 30+ years. He is retired from the Consumer Finance Industry in 2015 after 43 years, working for One Main Financial last 25 years of his career. He has 2 adult children, both married and 1 grandchild. Steve has worked with the Columbia Presbyterian Church youth for the past 10 years. Growing up, Steve was a newspaper carrier, and then a lot boy at the local Ford garage during High School. He worked for Bumble Seafood cold storage plant during college years earning money for college expenses.

 

Rachel Grice- Mentor and Training Leader

Rachel is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University and has lived in Clark County for 10 years.  Before becoming a mother, she worked as a middles school LA/SS teacher in Bellevue, WA, served as a Young Life leader, and coached soccer and track.  She currently homeschools her four children, coaches two soccer teams, substitute teaches in Evergreen on occasion, and teaches Sunday school at her church.  As a teen and young adult Rachel's jobs included selling athletic shoes at a local store, managing concessions at her university, nanny work, teaching ESL in Madagascar for a year, and reception/paralegal work at a law firm in Seattle.

 

Dave Patton- Mentor

Dave grew up in Sacramento, CA and after high school moved on to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.  Dave coached football at the Air Force Academy for 3 seasons and then worked for Western Airlines and as a machinist.  Later Dave was a pilot for Southwest Airlines for 31 years. Dave and his wife Holly moved to Vancouver in 1989. He has three adult children and three grand children. When Dave was a kid he had a lawn mowing business, washed dishes and waited tables in a coffee shop, worked for a moving company, delivered newspapers, and performed handyman jobs. He believes in the value of work and in the value of teenagers.

 

Jerry Bishop- Mentor

Jerry has lived in Clark County most of his life.  He graduated from Hudson Bay High School; obtained his AA degree from Clark College and then his management and marketing degree from University of Portland.  He has worked in the IT industry since 1978.  He has been working with youth via his work with Columbia Presbyterian Church since 1985.  He has worked as a dish washer, newspaper ad intern and as part of a warehouse crew during his high school and college years.   He enjoys spending time with his 4 children and 2 grandchildren. 

Kyle Phelan- Mentor

Kyle is a graduate from Linfield College where he received a degree in Finance and minored in Economics.  After college he began his career at American General Finance where he managed a branch for 10 years.  He then transitioned to Timber Products Manufacturers Association where he is currently the Membership Director.  Kyle started working at a young age picking cherries and mowing neighbors’ lawns.  His first W-2 job was a position as a door man at the theater at the age of 15 and then had a variety of summer jobs through high school and college.  Kyle was raised in Hillsboro and moved to Camas after college with his wife.  He has two children and enjoys coaching their sports teams.
